Adult Learning

The Adult Learning Division is concerned with the needs of adult learners who do not have a high school diploma. Adult Learning also focuses on life-long learning for all adults. This division deals with issues of instructional practices, family literacy, and workforce education. Call for manuscripts can be found here. Link to division page here. 

Clinical Research and Practice

The Clinical Division is involved with University Reading Clinics and tutoring programs, and is interested in exploring the reading process and its application to clinical, diagnostic, instructional, and administrative elements.  Link to division page here. 

College Literacy

The College Literacy Division focuses on literacy practices and methods for teaching post-secondary students at all achievement levels, including development-level reading, writing, study skills, and ESL courses through critical 21th century literacy education and research.

Teacher Education

The Teacher Education Division is interested in teacher education practices at the undergraduate and graduate levels, promoting improvement of preservice and inservice programs for literacy development. Link to division page here.

ALER seeks to stimulate the self-development and professional growth of professors, teachers, reading specialists and students at all educational levels. We encourage the continuing improvement of college and university curricula and assist preparation programs for teachers and reading specialists. Our members work at the forefront of policy, pedagogy and practice.  Further, we encourage the continuing improvement of administrative, clinical, diagnostic and instructional practices related to the learning process.
