ALER Retrospective

In accordance with directives of the ALER (then CRA) Board of Directors, this Ten-Year Retrospective of the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers: 2008-2018 offers a history of the organization for the ten-year period since the 50-year history ( The College Reading Association Legacy: A Celebration of Fifty Years of Literacy Leadership ) was released in 2010. The Retrospective picks up where the 50-year history left off, following much the same pattern, but with some alterations and additions. The foresight of the Board in requiring that our history be codified thoroughly every ten years rather than waiting until the next quarter- or half-century mark is remarkable and deeply appreciated. As we enter this next decade facing a pandemic and many other challenges, it is exciting to anticipate what the next iteration of our history may look like. We have a feeling that, rather than a puzzle coming together, the next ten years may resemble an explosion of thought and progress. We certainly hope so. In the meantime, please enjoy this ten years of ALER history!
